Before success comes in any man’s life, he’s sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps some failures. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. That’s exactly what the majority of men do. ~ Napoleon Hill

A man sees the world as an individual in a hierarchical social order where he is either one above or one down. it’s about status, it’s about negotiations and attempts to make himself the upper hand. it’s a contest, a struggle to preserve his independence.

Man and woman are two different beings. Even while living under the same roof and sleeping on the same bed, conversation between a man and a woman is like cross cultural communication. From a very young age girls play with their best friends or stay in small close knit groups and use language to seek information and reinforce intimacy, whereas boys use language to protect their independence. Like I said it’s a different world and a different way of thinking. Men like authority in their relationship where as women crave security and intimacy. In this article, I want to point out simple yet very powerful reasoning as to why men act the way they do and how we differ from woman in our mentality.

As we all know men and women live in two different worlds. No matter how much we talk about equal rights the truth is society still sees a man as the main provider. Even in a society where a household can’t sustain with just one person’s income, a man being above the woman still prevails. Sad but true!

A Man’s World

When a man engages in a conversation he engages in way he was taught to, as an individual in a hierarchical social order where he is one up or one down. When you see a man disagreeing with his wife , he is trying to achieve and maintain the upper hand and protect himself from being the under dog. An argument or a simple conversation for a man is a contest, a struggle to preserve independence and avoid failure.

A Woman’s World

Women, on the other hand see the world as a network of connections. They look at the world as an individual who is a part of network of connections. A conversation for a woman is negotiation for closeness not be the upper hand. Life to a woman is a community where they try to preserve intimacy and avoid isolation.

What do you think? Am I right? Think men, think! And if you are a woman throw some suggestion and views and opinion at me. It’s always better to see how the world looks from your side and learn more.

Well now that you are here let’s start the journey. For some this journey might not be very enjoyable, especially the one’s that think men are supposed to do manly things. By the way, what are manly things? Can somebody shed some light on that part for me. Been trying to figure that out since the time I was 15 so I could be looked upon as “The Man.”

I went hunting with my friend’s dad when I was a kid, didn’t really enjoy looking at a deer suffering while the bullet pierced its lungs. I looked at my own dad do some “manly” things like working on the car and stuff, never really got into that. The next time I went with a couple of older friends when I was 15 and sat on the stairs of a mall checking girls out. Everyone drooled but I felt something was wrong. I just couldn’t look at a hot pretty girl and say “I wanna tap that shit.” There was something wrong about it.

So what does it take to be a man? A perverted mind? Biceps that are ready to bust out of your skin or just the simplicity and willingness to be who you are? What does it take? Does it take enjoying hunting, does it take looking at woman as if you are hungry for some meat, what the heck does it take?

Think Men, Think and answer! What exactly do you think it takes to be “The Real Man?”

As we go you will find posts on how you can be The Real Man without being engaged in society’s stereotyped expectations of what a man should be.

Does that sound familiar to you? That’s the statement that comes out of most dad when they see their little boy playing with a doll. They run to their little boy and grab the doll from their hands and ask them a question that goes something like this, “What the hell are you doing? Are you a girl? Do you want to be a girl?”. The little boy, who by now is soaked in tears says, ” But dad, I just wanted to see the doll and play with it. I am not trying to be a girl. ” And then comes the talk from the clueless dad to his little child on why he should be playing with toys such as cars, trucks, guns and G.I. Joes. And usually the reasoning is the same - Cause that’s what men do!!!

That’s what men do! There it is, the very statement that makes a little boy feel guilty of his doing which by no means is Wrong. His thoughts start wondering in places bouncing through the walls in his head ” I wasn’t trying to be a girl. I just wanted to play with it. I don’t know why dad got so mad at me. ” The last post I talked about societal pressure on men on how they should act as a man doesn’t come naturally. They are embedded in a child’s mind while they are young and susceptible to any information they gain. Dad, uncle, brother and all other males they are all a part of society and it is the society that is ruining the mentality of young children.

If you are one of the dads who’s ever done that, I have nothing against you. I have a thing against society that made you feel the way you do on what a child’s toy should be based upon depending on his sex. Let’s analyze why your little boy might be playing with dolls or dressing up with his mom’s clothes.

Questions Need Answers

Imagine yourself in a world where everything needs to explored. You see people doing things and enjoying themselves but you don’t have a clue what they are doing. It’s mostly the opposite sex but you do see some men having a good time. You want answers but you are scared, you are in a world where you feel you are small. You want answers but the truth is you want to experience it yourself. You want that joy, that excitement they are getting out of that thing, not just an answer.

Now think of a little boy playing with a doll. Compare yourself with what I have just written above. What do you think a kid as young as 2-3 years old is doing while playing with a doll? He is trying to find an answer. Answers to questions such as “Why is my older sister always playing with them?” or “Do these things talk? My sister is always talking to them?” So next time you see your little boy playing with a doll think before you make assumptions. Act like an adult and think!

How Can They Do This

The other thing children are constantly curious about is how someone can do something so effectively or how someone can enjoy something so much. This might be one of the reason, in my opinion why most boys try to play with dolls. Watching their older siblings play with them and enjoy generates curiosity in them. They just want to find out how some of the things that they don’t own ( since they are not his toys ) work. Let them be, let them explore and satisfy their curiosity. All they are doing is finding answers and getting their curiosity taken care of.

I Want Something New

How long can something gain a child’s attention? Not for too long! This is one of the reason young boys start looking for other options such as dressing up like a girl or playing with dolls. They just want excitement and something else they can connect with. Also how do you feel when u break a system that just isn’t satisfying your needs? Rebellious! And sometimes a young child wants to be rebellious. That is another reason you might find them playing with dolls or girly toys for that matter. But is it really wrong? No it isn’t. Why would it be wrong? I can’t think of a single reason, can you?

I Need Attention

A child’s attention craving is high as you already know. Children will throw tantrum and cry and whine until they get some attention and this is nothing new. It’s natural. So next time you see your boy playing with a doll may be he is just craving some attention. If you are a caring and a loving dad you would join him and play with the doll just to show him that there is nothing wrong. I remember the day I played the Bratz doll with my son. I have four children, 3 girls and a boy. I seen him playing with a doll one day and I went and joined him. The reason is simple because there is nothing wrong with it. He sees his sisters playing, talking and enjoying their dolls and all he wants to do is have his share at it too.

A little boy playing with a doll isn’t a bad thing. Think men, think! Why would it be wrong? He is a just a little child trying to find answers to questions, gain attention, be rebellious and try something new. That’s all it is. There is nothing wrong with it. Next time you see him doing that, let him be! Better yet join him and share the fun.

Most men in our society have developed an attitude which I call “The Mannitude.” This particular attitude is a by product of societal pressure that is embedded upon each and every man while growing up.

As I was going through the comments on my previous post, I was glad that there are men who actually think the way I do. I was expecting lots of rude comments and so on but to my surprise they weren’t. I myself have tried to be a stereotypical man – a man with muscles, a man whistling at girls but like I have stated in the post above, it just didn’t feel right.

It just felt as somebody was dragging me into the hole that I didn’t want to go in.

Being a man isn’t about thinking that the world owes it to you. Being a man is about standing for yourself when need be, not every time something is thrown at you. Being a man is about knowing when you are wrong. Being a man is when you have the ability to shed tears when you have to.

So what the heck is “The Mannitude?”

Mannitude is the attitude men have developed due to societal pressure. The need and desire to be the one to provide and to be the one to take all the credit. In today’s modern world a family is usually run by two person – man and a woman, yet a man is taught to think of himself as a sole provider. “The Mannitude” refers to the knowledge that is give to a boy while he grows up to be a man. The Mannitude is a wrong approach to what is being taught to young boys and girls as to what a man should and act like.

A dad wearing a shirt that says “” while eating at a restaurant with his kids, that’s the mannitude – the wrong attitude. Sending out the wrong message to his own young one’s. Mannitude is a message that an older brother throws at his sibling while he watches TV and says “Boy! Check out her ass. She looks freaking hotttt.” Mannitude is the attitude that the society has taught men from the time they were young as to how they should develop as a man, which in my opinion is a wrong message to be sending out.

Think Men, Think! Is “The Mannitude” worth it when your 15 year old son comes home and says “Dad, I got ( name here ) pregnant! ?” No it isn’t. Give your kids the right message. If you got a mannitude, lose it, bury it and set an example by being different. Being different isn’t always a bad thing. If you got a mannitude, I am sorry to break it to you, but you are no where close to being a real man!
