What Does it Take to Be The Real Man?
Well now that you are here let’s start the journey. For some this journey might not be very enjoyable, especially the one’s that think men are supposed to do manly things. By the way, what are manly things? Can somebody shed some light on that part for me. Been trying to figure that out since the time I was 15 so I could be looked upon as “The Man.”
I went hunting with my friend’s dad when I was a kid, didn’t really enjoy looking at a deer suffering while the bullet pierced its lungs. I looked at my own dad do some “manly” things like working on the car and stuff, never really got into that. The next time I went with a couple of older friends when I was 15 and sat on the stairs of a mall checking girls out. Everyone drooled but I felt something was wrong. I just couldn’t look at a hot pretty girl and say “I wanna tap that shit.” There was something wrong about it.
So what does it take to be a man? A perverted mind? Biceps that are ready to bust out of your skin or just the simplicity and willingness to be who you are? What does it take? Does it take enjoying hunting, does it take looking at woman as if you are hungry for some meat, what the heck does it take?
Think Men, Think and answer! What exactly do you think it takes to be “The Real Man?”
As we go you will find posts on how you can be The Real Man without being engaged in society’s stereotyped expectations of what a man should be.

I think a real man is someone who is self sufficient , respectful and responsible for his own actions. I don’t think being a man is about physical attributes or owning things or how many ‘lays’ you get, its about the strength persons internal attributes and self held principles.

You already said it -” the simplicity and willingness to be who you are”. That takes more courage than whistling at girls, hitting the gym five times a week, and shooting at animals combined.

Being a real man has the same requirements as being a real woman. Just be you and avoid falling into stereotypes or doing things because it’s expected of you. Do things because they’re what you want. Too hell with society, down with social standards!

Just being responsible for yourself and others. That’s what it is. I do have the muscles, perverted mind, working on cars, and hunting in me. I still feel like a boy though. When I’m finally self-reliant and responsible, perhaps then I will feel like a man.

Couple of links you might find interesting, at least I think these are the links,
mkp.com, which is the mankindproject. and menstuff.com, a collection of men and women writing blogs. I know if you search under man kind project and look at the Indiana center, you should find a link to the menstuff.com site. Thanks. Mike Logan

I don’t know….I think hitting the gym five times a week is pretty damn sweet.
Also, women are hot. I think they deserve to be reminded.

Real men are unconcerned with notions toof acting like a real man. The are reminiscent of warrior poets of old; they King Solomon types, who love the world without needing it. They attract amazing experience, but often pass off the story as an instance of sheer luck. They dabble in the pleasures of the world without being attached to them, or afraid of them. They allow themselves to emote, whether it be laughing or crying. They do not care when others accuse him of not being a man because they do not follow silly definitions or stereotypes. Real men pursue their real dreams with real fervor, and never quit. These are a few measures of a real man.

Being manly isn’t the things you do i.e. sports, hunting, fishing… granted these are things people see and attribute to manly things but that is a stereo type. Being a man is the way you conduct yourself and interact with others.
You can not put a definition to a “real man.” but I will tell you that I think a few of the views here are correct but some of them are not attributes I would put in a “Real Man.”
-A man is strong; he must be able to defend himself and his family from harm.
-A man is honest; he must not lie to himself or others.
-A man is courageous; he must be willing to stand for his beliefs and defend them if necessary.
-A man has commitment; If he agrees to do something he will see it through until the end and not give up if it is hard.
These are just a few of the many traits a “Real Man” should have.
It doesn’t matter if you hunt or work out what matters is why you do these things. Do you hunt because it gives you a since of “false” power, or do you hunt for food. Do you lift weights so you can be the “biggest” or do you lift to stay healthy in shape and look better.
To the people that say just be yourself and that is a man, you are mistaken and I ask you to look at the world for reference. There are many men who act like themselves and they are shallow and conceded, they care of nothing but themselves and only do things that benefit them. Is this a real man? No, it is someone acting as them, selfish, selves. A “Real Man” takes dedication, it takes work and it is harder than just being oneself.

I’ve been looking for the answer to this question for a while. I think that the answer is within the question, “What does it mean to be a real man?”
The answer is to be REAL.
No falsehood, no games, no bullshit, nothing fake or artificial. Just REAL.
Honest
Genuine
